Satellites is a song about being queer. It’s a song about not being able to profess your love or who you really are openly or in public. It’s a song about loving so deeply and being so truly that you can do nothing but existing in a blaze of glory because you are so True and Wonderful. Enter Shikari frequently sings about space, and all such songs are grander for their theme. And in comparing queer folk to meteors and satellites we too become grand. We too become to bright and brilliant and full of love to ignore. And there is no vastness, not even the vastness of space that can tear us apart.
I love Enter Shikari in general. Their songs range from deeply political to filled with the beauty of the cosmos. Their instrumentation is always weird, and their songs range from gritty to grand. There really is no band around quite like them, and there is no song that makes me feel as though I shine so bright quite like satellites* *.
