Panophobia - The Agonist

I think Panophobia was the first death metal song I got obsessed with, close to a decade ago now. Before then, most of what I listened to was softer stuff like Megadeth or Metallica. I had purchased a few CDs from the store and listened to them on repeat until I could sing (scream?) along with basically everything in their catalog.

I had been wanting to expand my music tastes though. And since I had “upgraded” from Linkin Park to Metallica the only reasonable place to go from there was Death Metal. I did what any reasonable kid looking for new music to obsess over would do. I went to Tvtrope’s page on death metal and clicked a random band towards the top of the list. To this day bands like Avatar and Arch Enemy make some of my favorite music. Panophobia just so happened to be the song that I got obsessed with. There’s a really wonderful energy to it, the vocals are great, the guitar work is great. I think it’s a great song. I think it’s important just because in my silly little brain, this song is associated with my childhood. With nights spent reading fantasy books until the light faded so low that I had to actually get up and turn on the lights. It’s a deeply nostalgic song that holds up very well. I don’t think I need to explain anything else.
