Music

Genghis Khan - Miike Snow

You know how in movies, romcoms specificially, you have “Oh my god that’s our song.” And like it’s a musical connection that two people have? Well this is that with one of my exes. (I’m assuming she won’t see this. If I’m wrong, oops.) We dated for about four years in high school and into the beginning of college. This was one of her favorite songs and she listened to it a lot when I was around. It’s the longest relationship I’ve been in. (I mean I’m 22, it’d be weird for me to have another one that lasted longer.) It’s very much not a song I would listen to a lot on my own, but after a while listening to it with her I kind of really started to enjoy it. It was fun. It was cute. It’s a memory part of a time that’s since past, but a part of my past that informs a lot of who I am today. It’s a song that’s just as much a memory as it is music for me. It’s a song that encapsulates a major part of four years of my life and a major part of Why I’m Like This. And I think there’s something really interesting about the way that I experience the song at different moments in over the past few years.

I still like this song, especially now that I listen to more pop music than I did when I was younger. It’s one of those things that make me want to dance (in my room when no one else is watching). It’s a very sweet song. And I need that sometimes, irregardless of the memories tied to it.
